How to Use an AeroPress?
Explore the AeroPress, a revolutionary tool that makes it easy to quickly prepare delicious coffee, while giving you the choice to customize each cup according to your preferences. Easy to use and clean, this device has charmed coffee enthusiasts since its creation by Alan Adler in 2005. Dive into the various versions of the AeroPress and perfect your coffee craft!
The AeroPress is an innovative device that allows you to make delicious coffee in just a few minutes. It consists of a perforated cylinder, a plunger, and a filter (paper or metal). The principle is simple: you pour hot water over ground coffee, stir, then press the plunger to extract the coffee through the filter.
The AeroPress offers great freedom of customization: amount of coffee, temperature and brewing time, grind fineness... It is also very easy to clean, as you simply need to remove the filter and grounds, then rinse.
Alan Adler, an American engineer and inventor, created the AeroPress in 2005 to provide a simple and quick method for brewing quality coffee. Since then, it has won the hearts of enthusiasts thanks to its practicality, flexibility, and taste results.
The different AeroPress models
AeroPress offers several versions, suited to different needs and uses:
- AeroPress Classic: original model (2005), made up of a cylinder, a plunger, and paper/metal filters.
- AeroPress Go: portable version (2019), compact and lightweight, comes with a foldable mug that also serves as storage.
- AeroPress Clear: launched in 2023, made from Tritan™ (transparent BPA-free plastic), with a modern design.

The AeroPress Go kit includes:
- a pressure coffee maker,
- a storage case that serves as a mug,
- a lid,

Ideal for travelers, it combines practicality and portability.
My Recipe
- 15 g of coffee
- Water heated to 93°C (never boiling) with my kettle
- Inverted method: plunger at the bottom, cylinder on top
- Pre-heating the AeroPress and rinsing the paper filter
I'm using a KINGrinder K6 (see full review here) which is available for purchase on Amazon.
The grind should be medium, between espresso and V60.
Then:
- Pour the ground coffee into the AeroPress
- Add 200 ml of water
- Stir and start a timer for (1 min 30). Personally, I use the built-in timer on my coffee scale.
- Place the cap and flip the device
- Press gently (~30 s)
And there you have it, a balanced and flavorful coffee! {{< fa-icon solid mug-hot >}}

Consumables and accessories for AeroPress
One of the great strengths of the AeroPress is the availability of varied consumables and accessories, which extend the lifespan of the coffee maker and enhance the user experience.
Filters
- Paper filters: practical, economical and easy to replace.
- Metal filters: reusable, more durable and eco-friendly.
Most users note little difference in taste between the two, but metal filters appeal due to their longevity and eco-friendly nature.
Accessories
There are many accessories for AeroPress, but one of the most practical remains this storage box, ideal for storing the AeroPress.
Conclusion: my opinion on the AeroPress
In summary, the AeroPress is a coffee maker that appeals with its simplicity, versatility, and efficiency. Whether you're traveling with the Go model or at home with the XL version, it allows you to enjoy quality coffee without constraints. Its practicality-to-pleasure ratio makes it essential for all coffee lovers.
I mainly use the AeroPress Go. Its only flaw is its small capacity (200 ml), which is limiting for certain recipes. The classic or XL models are better suited for home use.
The resulting coffee has more body than the V60, without being as concentrated as an espresso.
- Very easy to use
- Quick cleanup
- Balanced taste results
- Recipe versatility (standard, inverted, XL...)
- Wide choice of accessories and spare parts
- Limited capacity of the Go model (200 ml)
