info

The Timemore Chestnut X is no longer produced. It has been replaced by the Timemore Chestnut S3 which I had the pleasure of testing in this article.

Recently, I acquired a new coffee grinder: the Timemore Chestnut X. It was designed by Timemore, a Chinese company already recognized in the coffee world for its complete range of grinders (Chestnut X, Chestnut G1, Chestnut Slim, Chestnut C/C2 and Chestnut NANO).
The Chestnut X is the brand's highest-end model. What is it really worth? Let's find out together.

Items included in the box

The Chestnut X comes in premium packaging with dense protective foam.
Box contents:

  • A small cleaning brush
  • A carrying bag
  • User manuals

Features and overall design of the Timemore Chestnut X

  • CNC-machined aluminum monobloc → robustness and durability
  • Sleek and modern design with a slightly square shape for better grip
  • Available in black and dark green (limited edition)

The retractable ball-bearing-mounted handle is a practical innovation. It adjusts easily and remains very stable. Unlike the competition (1Zpresso, El Commandante C40), the lid is made of metal and not plastic: a true guarantee of quality.

The adjustment system

The Chestnut X features a dual dial system that allows:

  • 5 additional adjustment levels per click
  • 120 total adjustment levels

Result: an adjustment more precise than the El Comandante C40, which requires an optional accessory ("Red Clix") to achieve such precision.

The hopper

  • Designed in one-piece aluminum, easy to screw/unscrew (smart stop system)
  • An internal ramp allows the ground coffee to slide directly into the portafilter
  • Good stability, even though the container is lightweight

The Burr

The Chestnut X burr, with a diameter of 42 mm, was specially designed by Timemore.
It features cutting blades that fragment the beans before grinding for more consistency.

In practice:

  • Excellent espresso results
  • Precision comparable to high-end grinders like Apollo, 1Zpresso and Kinu M47
  • More precise than the El Comandante C40

Using the Grinder

Time Required to Grind Coffee

  • 16 g of ground coffee in 1 to 1min20
  • Slower than the Apollo, but comparable to the C40 and Kinu M47
  • Less torque required → more comfortable to use

Disassembly and Cleaning

The design similar to the Apollo makes cleaning quick and simple.
Once reassembled, the setting remains easily retrievable.

Conclusion: My Opinion on the Timemore Chestnut X

The Timemore Chestnut X is an excellent high-end coffee grinder.
It combines design, precision and robustness, and will perfectly suit demanding espresso lovers as well as filter coffee enthusiasts.

Rating: ★★★★☆
